Remember

Sunday, April 26, 20261130am
📖 LUK.24.9-LUK.24.32
After the resurrection, Jesus’ followers struggled to believe what he had promised. This lesson calls the church to remember God’s word, refuse to shrink God to the size of past pain, and return to Scripture when faith grows weary.
Key Points
1.
Remember what Jesus has said instead of allowing pain to make hope seem impossible.
2.
Do not downgrade God by interpreting his power through disappointment or natural thinking.
3.
Return to Scripture when faith is weary, and let the Word renew your remembrance.
4.
Receive the identity God gives rather than the labels people attempt to place on you.

Sermon Summary

The lesson begins with the resurrection account in Luke 24. The women were told to remember what Jesus had said, yet the news sounded like nonsense to the disciples and Peter left the tomb wondering what had happened.

Why are you wondering?

The message suggests that the disciples’ struggle was not simply forgetfulness. Previous disappointment and fear made hope feel more painful than grief, so they had difficulty trusting the promise they already knew.

How dare you downgrade God?

On the Emmaus road, the disciples described Jesus only as a prophet even after witnessing his power. The church is challenged not to let loss, limited understanding, or fleshly thinking reduce its view of who God is and what God can do.

Return to the Word

Jesus restored the disciples by explaining the Scriptures, and their hearts burned within them. When faith feels dim, believers are called to return to the Word, remember their testimony, and let God’s truth burn away what hinders belief.

The teaching also frames Christ’s unjust accusation and crucifixion through 2 Corinthians 5:21: Jesus was made sin so that believers could become the righteousness of God. Human labels do not determine the identity God has given.

The weight of a second chance

Bishop Terry L. Hill, Jr. · Aug 30, 2026

From Exodus 34, the speaker teaches that after we mishandle what God has given us, God may still speak to us and offer another chance—but that second chance carries responsibility, effort, and preparation. Like Moses, we must “chisel out” what we broke and show up differently so we can leave differently.

An Obligated Community

Bishop Terry L. Hill, Jr. · Aug 30, 2026

Teaching from Mark 2:1–12: four friends refuse to let their paralyzed friend miss the opportunity to get to Jesus. An obligated community takes responsibility to carry others, pushes through obstacles, and is willing to take radical steps to put a need in front of Jesus. Jesus first heals what can’t be seen (forgiveness, guilt, shame), then also heals what can be seen to prove his authority, moving people from onlookers to joint praisers.

The Power of God's Community

Elder Steven Harris · Aug 23, 2026

The speaker teaches that living near people (or attending church) is not the same as belonging to God’s community. God’s community requires established relationships marked by trust, respect, unity, love, and sanctification—separation from unbelief and ungodly practices. Using Israel’s encounter with Moab and Balaam, the sermon highlights that God gives His people a reputation, preserves His community, and warns that the enemy tries to weaken community through compromise from within.
