Sermon Summary

“We live with great expectation.” The sermon identifies hope as producing the expectation present at Pentecost and says God intends to increase “the hope, the expectation, the anticipation” of what God will do in each life.

Expectation grows out of faith

“Expectation is an outgrowth of your faith.” The sermon says faith produces expectation and connects this to Hebrews 11:1: “It’s the expectation for what I don’t see.”

Live with active expectation

Using the expectation of an upcoming trip as an example, the sermon says a person adjusts life and payment arrangements around what is expected. The congregation is called to live in “active expectation” for God’s work every day.

Offer tested faith

The sermon says that tested faith protects believers and that “the strength of your faith must match the strength of your expectation.” It warns against strong expectation without faith that can endure.

Offer fortitude

The sermon names fortitude as the mental and moral strength to fight adversity, pain, and danger with courage. It reads 1 Peter 1:13–17, including “prepare your minds for action,” “exercise self-control,” and “you must be holy.”

The weight of a second chance

Bishop Terry L. Hill, Jr. · Aug 30, 2026

From Exodus 34, the speaker teaches that after we mishandle what God has given us, God may still speak to us and offer another chance—but that second chance carries responsibility, effort, and preparation. Like Moses, we must “chisel out” what we broke and show up differently so we can leave differently.

An Obligated Community

Bishop Terry L. Hill, Jr. · Aug 30, 2026

Teaching from Mark 2:1–12: four friends refuse to let their paralyzed friend miss the opportunity to get to Jesus. An obligated community takes responsibility to carry others, pushes through obstacles, and is willing to take radical steps to put a need in front of Jesus. Jesus first heals what can’t be seen (forgiveness, guilt, shame), then also heals what can be seen to prove his authority, moving people from onlookers to joint praisers.

The Power of God's Community

Elder Steven Harris · Aug 23, 2026

The speaker teaches that living near people (or attending church) is not the same as belonging to God’s community. God’s community requires established relationships marked by trust, respect, unity, love, and sanctification—separation from unbelief and ungodly practices. Using Israel’s encounter with Moab and Balaam, the sermon highlights that God gives His people a reputation, preserves His community, and warns that the enemy tries to weaken community through compromise from within.
